Sarah G Photography is now officially Morning Glory Photography!!
First I'm going to tell you a little story about the name.
When I was very young my Grandma Theresa, my favorite person in the world, (my Mom's Mom) lived about 2 hours away from us in Texas and we visited her as often as possible. One of the sweet things I recall about spending time at her house was all the flowers she grew. Her gardens were a thing of art. We would walk through the yard while she me showed each plant & teach me the names. Morning Glory was always one of my favorites because of all the colors they come in and the way they just climb up any old place they please. Plus I love the scent; a peppery-sweet fragrance. The smells of her garden combined with the sandy humid air and scent of pine will always make me nostalgic.
Growing up my Mom and Grandma called me that too. When I woke up in the morning they would call out "Good morning Glory."
When Grandma was about to move from Texas she collected seeds from her Morning Glory vines and brought them to Indiana. Those same ones still grow in her backyard. So even though they've moved away from that home I so fondly remember, that's one of the things from my childhood that I'm able to hold onto. I have some of the seeds in my freezer too. They are still one of my favorite flowers and she's still one of my favorite people in the world.
One other fun thing about these flowers - they turn their faces toward the sun as it moves across the sky. Which is a pretty fitting comparison when it comes to photography too. I can't tell you how many times I've prompted a client "turn your face toward the light".
So, you see, the Morning Glory flower holds a special significance to me. Also, I think they're pretty. And the initials MG are my husband's initials. :)
Why did I change my name? I thought it was time for me to make things a little more official. I figured if I'm going to make a big switch, the start of a new year seems about as perfect a time as any. When I first named my business last Summer I really didn't give it much thought. I had been doing sessions for a few weeks and people kept asking for my name. When I didn't have anything to tell them I decided to just use my own name. But how boring is that? Also, I wanted to make this move before I got into the business any farther.
So here we are. A new year, a new chapter, and a new name. I hope you like it. I do.
