Frequently Asked Questions
How early should I schedule my session?
For most sessions, 6-8 weeks before your desired date is adequate, however peak seasons may require booking 8-10 weeks in advance. The sooner, the better! Weddings are typically booked about a year in advance. For Births and Newborns, I recommend you contact me as early as possible since scheduling for these requires more flexibility & planning.
When/How do I pay for my session?
A $25 deposit and completed contract is required to secure your appointment, the remaining balance is due the day of your session.
Payment for your prints & products is due at the time of placing the order.
You may pay with cash or check.
What time of day will my session take place?
Whenever possible, sessions take place during "golden hour", which is about 2 hours before sunset, as this time of day offers the most beautiful light.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If it's raining the day of your session, or if the temperature is below 40 degrees, we'll reschedule for the next date that both parties are available.
What should we wear?
This is a tough question because it depends on your personal style and preferences. But here are some simple tips to get you started.
- Be comfortable and make sure your clothes fit you very well.
- Pretty please, don't dress everyone in your family in the same color or matchy-matchy outfits.
- In stead, coordinate your color palette by selecting items that are complementary, but not exactly the same.
- Avoid neon colors, especially hot pink and magenta.
- Cream or grey looks better on camera than stark white.
- Consider the setting where your photos will be taken. If you will be photographed in a green field, avoid wearing lots of green, and in stead go for colors that will make you stand out from the background. Likewise, in the fall if you'll be in front of lots of yellow foliage, go with a deep saturated color that will compliment the fall leaves.
- Don't be afraid of accessories & layers - scarves, jackets, hats, jewelry, vests, and suspenders add depth and interest to your photos.
- Shoes matter. Your feet will be visible in photos, so go ahead and get those boots cleaned up and spiffy before your session. For children, when possible, I LOVE bare feet.
- When in doubt, just ask me! I'm happy to give you advise. (or look on Pinterest)
What if my child gets sick and I need to reschedule?
I completely understand that illness happens and sometimes we need to reschedule. I’ll do my best to work with you to find another date that works for your family in the event of an illness. Your $25 deposit will be transferred to the new agreed-upon session date as long as at least 24 hours notice of rescheduling is given. If less than 24 hours notice is given, your deposit will not be refunded, but you may reschedule by paying a new deposit and completing a new photography contract.
When will my photos be ready?
Your private gallery will be available within about 14 days of your session. You will then have 14 days to download & save them before your gallery expires.
Will I get a digital copy of all my pictures?
Yes! All photo sessions include digital download of all your edited images with a print release.
What am I allowed to do with my pictures?
Print them! Make books, canvases, collages, cards, coffee cups, share with friends and family, fill up your walls, or share on social media. (Just make sure you give credit to Morning Glory Photography if you share them online. And when possible, link back to my page/site.) Most importantly, ENJOY them!
Where should I print my photos?
I recommend using professional print lab such as Adoramapix or Black River Imaging for the highest quality; however mpix.com is an acceptable consumer level print lab. I strongly caution against using drug stores & big box stores (Wal-mart, Costco, SAM’s, Target) for your prints.
What if my computer crashed and I lost all my photos?
I highly recommend that you make a backup copy of your digital photographs as soon as possible. (Even better, make 2 backup copies and keep one in another location.) But if your images are lost, you may purchase duplicates for $25. However, I cannot guarantee I will have old files available for you. So PLEASE back up your photos!
What kind of camera / equipment do you use?
I shoot with a Canon 5DIII and a variety of Canon lenses. I also have professional-grade back-up gear.... just in case.
